Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

More feminine and confident with new body image

A tummy tuck is performed on men and women who wish to enhance the appearance of their abdomens. The procedure involves the surgical removal of excess abdominal skin and fat. The objective of the tummy tuck is to improve and flatten the abdominal contour, tighten the abdominal muscles.

Under general anaesthetic
2-3 night stay in hospital
Can take an average of 2 hours to perform
Usual for patients to take 2 weeks away from work
Refrain from strenuous exercise for 8 - 12 weeks

Common causes of loose abdominal skin are:
Pregnancy
Weight gain
Weight loss

There is no specific treatment for stretch marks which are left after extreme stretching of the skin. Many stretch marks will be excised during abdominal reduction and those that are left are tightened which may make them look less obvious.

There are variations of the standard abdominoplasty but these will be discussed with you by the surgeon.

Results

This procedure can provide excellent results for both men and women. Self-confidence can often be boosted after surgery. It is important to note that no matter how high the surgical standards, this procedure cannot be performed without the introduction of visible surgical scars on the operated area. Light activities can be resumed from 10 days onwards as overactivity in the early days can reduce healing and increases fluid accumulation. Swelling above the scar is usually present and a corset in the first month is usually helpful.
